Series 1 - Part 4: THE FEAST OF THE FLOWER: Plastic

What is this "Feast of the Flower", you ask?

Well, you see, I am on a mission to make 50 different flowers using 10 different media/techniques over 10 posts (not necessarily consecutive...). I have already crocheted 5 flowers, made 5 flowers out of toilet paper rolls and 5 more out of fabric. Today I struggled with plastic... Wow, it was hard to design and make 5 different plastic flowers, I must say. Not only was it hard but it was difficult too. I kept fussing with them and changing them and tweaking them. Some I threw right back into the recycling bin from whence they came. I can't even say that I am satisfied with all the flowers I'm posting, but I guess that happens, right? I mean, honestly, sometimes I really don't like the things I end up with. Today is one of those times. But, I chalk it up to life and learning, and especially learning to accept that sometimes I, too, can make crap! C'est la vie!

I made most of the flowers out of plastic water bottles and also out of this long plastic box that my curtain rods came in when I bought them months and months ago now.

So here are the flowers!

Flower #1: Wasn't too bad before I went and painted the darn thing...

Here it is painted... Front...

And back...

Flower #2: Before paint

After paint... I also added a round piece on the back for dimension.

A closeup...

Flower #3: I actually like. Here it is before adding the crocheted border.

And after.

Flower #4: Before assembling, and I also added a little paint after this...

Here is the paint I added.

And here it is assembled. It's not too bad, I guess, eh?

And here is Flower #5.

Closeup of the back.

And of course, some group photos, can't not do group photos, am I right?

And that's that. Have a great day or night depending on where you may be!

  7. Michele, May I ask how you get the plastic so flat? I have tried several times to 'create'something from soda bottles but I can't seem to get them flat enough to work with. Any suggestions would be helpful.
Like many others, I also like #4 the best! Lisa

    1. Hi Lisa,

The flat plastic you see in some of the flowers is actually from packaging that is already flat to begin with. I cut it up and made flowers with it. So in #4, I used pieces from a plastic bottle and combined it with a piece from some flat packaging. Hope that helps Lisa. :)
