A Thousand Thanks Celebration and Giveaway!

This Giveaway is NOW CLOSED. Thank you to all who entered!

Happy Monday!

I'm so glad you could make it! Today I'm celebrating a truly nifty milestone: this blog's amassing of 1000 Google Friend Connect followers. Happy happy joy joy!!! It seems impossible, but there it is in black and white down there in the foot of the blog. See? I'm not even making this stuff up. I'm so chuffed about it I can't even say...

And speaking of following, I also want to acknowledge my lovely email and RSS subscribers. I want you to know that I haven't forgotten you. One day you'll get your very own celebration, never fear. You too are important to me! And needless to say, you are most welcome to stay and play today, as is everyone.

So what are we doing? We're sharing. Sweet eh? I'm going to tell you a little bit about me. And, eventually, you'll do the same. But I'll get it started. Here are some things I've never told you before.

Ready? Okay... here goes nothing:

  • I'm very shy. People don't believe me when I tell them this, but it's true. I'm afraid of you. You scare me.
  • I don't do the dishes every day. Sometimes I skip a day and just let the pile grow for another day. And oddly, I really hate doing 2 days worth of dishes but sometimes I really hate doing ONE day of dishes. It's a circle.
  • I'm ambidextrous. I use my left hand for eating, writing, and cutting. My right hand I use for handling a computer mouse, playing sports like hockey and baseball, and weeding. And despite cutting with my left hand, I cannot abide left-handed scissors. They're just awful.
  • I'm not colour blind, but sometimes red is green and green is red. Unexplainable.

  • I'm modest to the extreme. Sometimes I wish it was winter all year round. That way I wouldn't ever have to wear small clothes. I've literally gone years without swimming to avoid wearing my bathing suit. Canada with its long winters is the place for me.
  • I have a temper; I've been known to get angry much much.
  • I used to do a lot of acting. I co-starred in a local children's television series in the 1990's. We recorded only one season.
  • Frequently my brain itches, and I can't reach in to scratch because it's inside my brain.
  • Warm scarves are crucial, essential, necessitous to my existence. My first few inches are permafrost so I'm cold, always cold... I'm cold right now.
Hey, that went pretty smoothly...

Okeedoke. Now it's your turn. Wanna know what you're playing for? Alrighty then!

The giveaway prize includes:
  1. A small spiral bound notebook for sketching or recording your precious ideas.
  2. A set of 8 fine-point sharpies including a twin-tip black.
  3. 10 squares of felt (4-1/2" x 4-1/2" each)
  4. 3 (10 g) spools of DMC cotton perle
  5. All of the above neatly packaged in a pretty Michele-designed reversible fabric gift box. (Note: See my tutorial and template HERE to make your own, if you just can't wait.)

The rules of giveaway-play are:
  • Anyone, anywhere can enter.
  • Have a solid email address.
  • Leave a comment on this post telling me one little-known fact about yourself, anything you like.
  • If you are a follower, you get a second entry!
The winner will be chosen ever so randomly on Friday June 17th, 6 am EST, and divulged in Friday's post.

Finally I'd like to say that the blogosphere is a big overwhelming place sometimes. Yet you, my friend, have allowed me to stake my claim on a tiny piece of it, call it my own, and share in it with you. I am so tickled by the lovely comments you leave, your thoughtful remarks, and your genuine support of the work I do. I thank you for being part of this with me.

So now it's your turn. Is there anything you're just itching to get off your chest? Come on, don't be shy now...

This Giveaway is NOW CLOSED. Thank you to all who entered!

  3. What a lovely giveaway and for such a lovely gal. For being shy you are learning your way out of it. As for something that few people know about me . . . I hate to shave my legs. As an adult I now wear pants and am thankful for an office job. No one knows :)

  6. Please put my name in the hat for your beautiful giveaway! Michele, you are scared of US? But we love you! I'm sure you would get over that if we could all come over for cookies 'n milk. Have you got 1004 kitchen chairs?

Let's see, something revelatory, hmmm...okay, I have a bad habit of waiting until all but one of my socks have holes before going out and buying new socks. It's a very silly way to run a sock drawer and I do not recommend it to anyone.

  7. 1004 followers wow, I am amazed I have 60!! Congratulations. I love your little boxes. Okay my little secret is...I have a tattoo from my wild motorbiking days, it's a seahorse, it's on my shoulder so I can decide whether I hide it or show it off!!!!

  8. Congratlations!
It's funny, we have several things in common. I'm as well very shy, extremely shy in my childhood, it's getting better.
I'm also modest, but living in Spain with extreme hot summers has made me even use a bikini (first time last year, and I'm "only" 40!!! Cannot still believe it!
And then there is the temper. I have a very bad temper, have tried to improve and soften it a little, but it keeps coming back ; )
    Thank you very much!

  10. Ooh! First comment? By the way, this is my first time commenting your blog, so hello!

I am also easily cold, although I live in the tropics.. It's the air conditioner tho.. I am stressed out at how air conditioner-ed buildings usually are, so I need to always have a jacket near me.

  14. I like your blog and your creativity.
You are very generous with this fantastic drawing.
    - I can make clear to my you that I am shy, the people confuse it with antipathy.
    - I am skillful, but I use the left side to cook, and to use the tools of the land.
    - I have a small garden (in the garden of house of my parents) in honor to my mother. It is the way of being near her, of feeling it more near my, without having to enter the house, that it produces to me a sensation of enormous emptiness.
    - my social skills are small, and since my mother died I am doing a constant effort in relating and learning myself of the people.

I am telling you intimate things, which I liked to explain. Thank you Michele.
    Kisses.

  16. Wow 1000 followers is certainly a milestone to celebrate although I'm not surprised you got there so quickly. One little known fact about me is .....I'm a very indecisive person living up to my Libran star sign of always weighing up the pros and cons when a decision needs to be made. I drive myself crazy being like this.

  17. What a great giveaway!

I'm also pretty shy. I've got more random facts about me on my blog.

    ReplyDelete
  18. so, a little known fact - well it's a tough one as I'm quite mouthy and don't keep much to myself! I had my belly button pierced when I was 18 and then spent the next 12 years being scared of it until my husband took it out for me last year.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Congratulations Michele with the 1000+ followers! Love to follow your blog to always find so much joy and positive, beautiful writing!

A little unknown fact about me... as a child I was often told by my mother that I had a strange and ugly body (tall/skinny, broadshouldered and broad hip joints). This made me so shy that I was afraid to ware pants, to enter rooms and to stand up in public.
When I met my husband he told me I was beautiful, but it took me some decades to really believe him. I loved the years of oversized fashion!

And now I’ve gained so much weight that I’m kind of square...

  20. Congratulations! I'll have to check out your fabric box tutorial. Little known fact ... I procrastinate WAY too much and I have two high school diplomas - one from Secondary 5 (grade 11)in Quebec, and another from OAC (grade 13) in Ontario.

  29. I can't even imagine getting 1000 followers, but you are worthy!

Anyway, your post reminded me of my days as an air traffic controller in the US Navy - one of the first things that they test for, before they send you to air traffic control school, and every year thereafter, is whether you can quickly distinguish red lights from green lights. I'm guessing this would not be a good career for you.

Anyway, in the interest of still being able to move in my house, if I win, I would very much like the fabric box, but the other things I have in great quantity, so I might suggest you send them to someone else.

  33. Congratulations on your reaching 1000 followers.

I consider myself *almost* bilingual, I learned English at school and through watching TV. I was born and raised in a French-speaking part of Canada, by unilingual French parents. 99.99% of the people I meet or hang out with speak French.
But when I'm alone in my car or at home, you'll often catch me speaking to myself... in English. Just so, you know, I don't forget how to speak the language, or something like that. Yup. Weird, mutant frog... lol

  43. To name a few, not necessarily hidden facts about myself, but facts nonetheless: I really hate raisins (the ones that are all plumped up) in things, especially in salads and muffins. For some reason, I like them in rice pudding, go figure.
I love to wear dresses and skirts, but nothing too short because like you I do not love wearing my bathing suit (and this summer I told my daughter that I would take her to the waterslides, and I absolutely hate standing around in my bathing suit in front of strangers).
I would love to learn to play the harp ( I already play the piano and have meddled around with the violin, the guitar and some wind instruments). Unfortunately, harp teacher are few and far between and harps are EXPENSIVE! I would also love to own and run my own business some day, and I am not in lack of ideas... just have to settle on something that will work!
Thanks for sharing some of yourself and some of your goodies! I'm keeping my fingers crossed!

  45. a little known fact about me? Well, I do my very best to keep this under wraps since it is so embarrasing, but I cry at the drop of a hat! about anything- sad or happy. Weddings, movies, tv shows, commercials with abused animals in them, songs of the radio... And I dont just mean I get teary-eyed- I have been known to openly weep because of all of these things.

I'm by no means a sad person, and most peopler would descrive me as very laid back and calm, so I think my friends would be surprised to see how emotional I really am!

thanks for the giveaway- if I win... I promise not to cry! ;)

  48. I love reading all about you and your commenters! Sparrow ran off with the circus? wow! Anyway, congratualations on breaking into the quadruple-digits!
God has saved my life (at least) three times: when my mom was 5 months pregnant (someone offered to pay for her to get an abortion), then again when she was 8 months prego (drive-by shooting), then again when I gave birth to my eldest son (blood clots went through my heart into my lungs - long story). So I know that I'm here for a reason and I praise God for it!

  52. It's totally true! I fell madly in love at first sight with a singer for the Cirque du Soleil, we met up once while he was in town, and a few months later, we'd been conversing by email, and he invited me up to SF visit... When I arrived, we cozied up on the couch with a bottle of wine, and he promptly told me all about his new girlfriend. I kinda lost it, French dudes, WTF?!

Anyway, not wanting to deal with the drama, he introduced me to a gal who worked in the costume department, and with our shared love/hate of the dude, we got on like a house on fire. A few months after that, a city-by-city job opned up in the costume department, I flew out to DC (ended up sleeping overnight in the Atlanta airport, that was wild) and promptly signed on for my glamorous job...

Doing laundry! Yeah, all those pretty cosumes need a lot of maintenance, and I was responsible for most of it. It was kinda a lousy job, but I was there every day backstage, helping the players get dressed, being yelled at by clowns, dealing with acrobat drama, and generally having an amazing time.

My job made me stay way after all the beautiful people went home, so I got to know all the technicians really well, and kinda fell in with one of them, a French Canadian dude. We spent Christmas in Quebec City, where I promptly got pneumonia, but hey. Christmas with nothing but snow, and a roaring fire!

I ended up staying with that tour for three and a half cities before I burnt out. 60+ hour weeks for eight weeks, and then two weeks with nothing to do kinda stresses people out. It's not actually the work that's hard, it's the complete stop at the end of the city that kills you. Everybody gets a serious case of the blues. I applied for a permanent position with the tour, and when I ended up not getting it, I kinda realized it was time to move on.

Still, I so would not trade it for the world. It was drama-tastic, but hey, I had just turned 18, everybody's live is drama-tactic at that age, at least I had fun!

    ReplyDelete
  53. Yay! I've actually tried making this box from your template but it never turns out as good as yours. A fact about me... I only use regular deodorant, not anti-perspirant because I heard that a chemical in that has been linked with Alzheimer's. Interesting fact, yes?

    So pumped for this giveaway!

  54. I think most of my friends know this, but nobody in blog land does. I didn't think I'd ever get married, or I'd get married later in life. Instead I married at 22 and it wasn't a shotgun marriage or anything like that. Thanks for the giveaway!

  61. So many people ! Imagine inviting us all in your living room ???? Come to think.... I remember those discussions a loooong time ago about a novel called " the machine " , before internet even existed and we all used to say how dehumanizing human relationships would become ...Well , so I was wrong and then maybe I am wrong still when I don't understand why so many people waste their time growing virtual things on their virtual farms .... that's something I had never even told myself , so I am playing the game , well congratulations for your original blog because it is so ...personal !!!

    ReplyDelete
  62. One thing about me is that I hate being hot. If it weren't for central air, I would suffer through out the summer. Thank God we have such a short summer. LOL!! So we both love winter. LOL!!! See, that's another thing we have in common. I just love wrapping myself in a quilt. Congratulations on having 1000 followers. You are doing amazing.

  63. I can identify with about half of your "true confessions". I, too, leave the dishes go... alot of the time. But the item I want off my chest is that I am still - after 43 years of marriage, I am still in love with another man... that I haven't even seen since before that. That's pretty kookoo, I'd say.

I create a whole range of worlds and stories, a lot of characters and adventures inside my head. I love doing this while travelling, when you have nothing to do because your just on your way. I call this being "between the times" / "between time" (it is a little bit difficult to translate one to one into english :) ).

But I'm glad you've shared that. I've started a blog a few months ago encouraged by friends and I thought they would be the only ones visiting. and suddenly... BUM - 1500+ visitors. And yes I'm TERRIFIED. Not all of them are followers but I'm happy that they like my work. Their appreciation keeps me going. I've shared your blog with them too. oh- I met my husband online. yep- ChristianCafe.com
They allowed a free week trial and I used 2 different email address for one week of trial and the last try I just emailed a bunch of people (male and female) to just make friends.

Dave and I started talking online and met about 4 months later at a movie.

  86. Now, I want to say congratulations on millenium and what a lot of love went into your giveaway! Beautiful box and lots of good seed material inside too. A few years ago is was told my blood group was B+, get it? Be positive! I needed to hear that as I have had a tendency to be negative (B-):)

    ReplyDelete
  87. I can relate to your color issue because I have the same problem with the numbers 7 and 9. If someone is reading a long number to me I will often hear 7 and write 9 or the other way around. One of my other oddities is that I no longer have a belly button due to many abdominal surgeries, but sometimes I have phantom belly button itch. It is mildly annoying when it won't go away, but mostly just funny to me. It does however give me great empathy for what the amputees with phantom pain must go through.

  102. Hello, Michele! I just came here to tell you that my papercuts from brown packing paper are ready and can be seen in my blog. If you remember, I wrote in your post "Monotonous Monday" about it. And - what a surprise! You have a giveaway on such a special occasion! Congratulations! It must be very pleasant to know how many people like you and what you are doing with your golden hands! Well, I won't miss the chance to participate, so... here's something about me. I love music - I play the piano (I attended classes for 12 years) and sing. I've been doing both things throughout the years as a puppet theatre director and actress. (It was interesting to learn you had been acting, too!)
    See you!:)

  150. Great giveaway! My well known fact, the one I always use when we have to share a "fun fact" about ourselves is I used to have a pet monkey when I lived in Cambodia.
My less known one that's been on my mind recently is that I am a terrible arguer. I am okay when debating a topic or meaning or event or whatever. I mean the little fights I have with my boyfriend or whatever. I get totally immature and cry and hang up on him and break things and irrational stuff like that. But in the middle of being upset, it's not like I can go, "Whoops, sorry, let me turn my mature switch back on and we can talk about this."

  159. We have a few things in common - I'm cold-natured here in the mountains of NC in the US, but I wear sweaters instead of scarves. I had not thought of scarves, but might try them. I'm shy, but I hold my head up high when I walk into the room with a patient, because I know they may be just as nervous as I am. As for the dishes - well I don't mind loading the dishwasher, but I HATE to unload it. That is a problem when I need to load it again. So, they stay in the sink for a day or so, until I finally unload it.

LOVE YOUR BLOG!!! Your giveaway prize is absolutely precious and so Michele. Anyone who wins that will be one lucky person. Put me in the pot.

I picked up my fabulous present this Friday at the post office. It couldn't have arrived in a better moment, we are getting through a very hard time/big problems in my family and this was just what I needed to cheer aup a little. I LOVE the box (and the content of course), must try to make one myself, but have to learn how to make that kind of embroidery first. I have some fabric that matches with the floss, so I have no excuses ; )
    Big hug from Spain!
