How To Disable The New Two-Word Verification In Blogger

I don't know if you noticed but Blogger installed a brand new two-word verification on all Blogspot blogs lately. Yip. EE. I don't know when it happened exactly but I DO NOT like it. Funny thing is, I had disabled word-verification eons ago but upon further investigation, I noticed that it had been RE-enabled without my consent. How did that happen, I wonder... The only thing I can think of is maybe when Blogger made recent changes to the comments section, they must have reset it to the default setting or something... Who knows. I don't pretend to understand the collective mind of Blogger.

In any case, I re-disabled the word-verification. So I wanted to know if it was actually really, truly, and completely gone... Let me know will you? 'Cause I have no way of double-checking from my end...

Now, if the new word-verification happens to irk you as much as it does me (it sends me squarely round the bend) you too can disable it.

Here's what you do:

1. [Skip to step 2 if you're still using the old Blogger interface.]

Edited to Add 24 Sept 2012

You CAN now turn off two-word verification in the new interface. Here's how:
1. Click "settings" from within your dashboard.
2. Click "posts and comments".
3. Adjust "comment moderation" settings to your liking.

Thanks for updating me, Jelli. ♥M

If you're using the new Blogger interface you first have to get back to the old interface because, for some reason, these settings cannot be found in the new one. Hrm. So, find your way to the old interface by going to the new dashboard. In the upper right hand corner of your screen you'll see a little icon that looks like a gear. Click the icon and this drop-down menu will appear immediately below it:

2. Click on "Old Blogger interface". This brings you back to a sweet and simpler time... Now click on the settings for the blog in question:

3. And then select the Comments tab.

4. Scroll down the page to "Show word verification for comments?" and click "NO". Obviously. Not even a question.

5. Briefly celebrate. And then quickly hit "Save Settings" at the bottom of the page.

Aaaah yesssss... Not even a craft but still most satisfying. Everything is right with my bloggy world again. You should now be word-verification-less... Blissdom!...  Okay well, you have a lovely weekend and I'll be back soon.

♥M

Edited to Add 28 Feb 2012: HERE's another very thorough post by Hilary about the new word-verification. Thanks Hilary!

  6. The new verification is driving me batty and really cramping my comment-style. I'm not leaving nearly as many as I used to. I had it disabled in the old format, too. Is it back on my blog??? Horrors!

  7. Thank you for the heads up, I had no idea this was enabled. Now to find out if it's actually disabled :)

  8. I noticed that all of a sudden I'm seeing this new verification. The only problem is... I don't see the two words. So I am suddenly unable to ever comment on anything that requires that verification. I wonder if anyone realizes how many commenters they may be losing. I wish you could tell us how to disable the verification for we who comment! Thanks for the insight. And I didn't see the verification on your blog.

    1. Exactly Noreen, that's what was happening with me too! Hopefully more people will get rid of the word-verification. I know I would be much happier for it. :)

  9. Yes, it has driven me insane. Worse, they chose a mile long words. I absolutely hate it!

I had to check if word verification was enabled as you said, but in my dashboard it says no verification needed. So I guess when you leave a comment at my place it does not ask for it. Does it Michele? Because, just as you, I wouldn't know.

  16. A great PSA!!! Let's see, if I submit this comment and then don't come back to tell you I had to do the verification, you can be assured that your new setting is correct. Here goes...

  17. Crap, I did disable mine ages ago but I'd better check that it didn't get un-disabled. I absolutely DETEST the new captcha codes. Impossible to read. Ridiculous.

  24. Thank you for the instructions. I double checked (haha) to be sure double verification is off. Yes, I, too, found double verification redundant and unnecessary.

  26. Ahhhh! I'm a wordpress kinda gal, but read a lot of blogger blogs and HATE the two word verification. THe toher thing they changed it so that on a lot of blogs I wasn't even able to leave a comment with my wordpress information. I learned a way around it, to sign in with a blogger/goggle info, but I really don't want that. SO, like others have said, I don't leave as many comments. I do have one blogger blog, but am about to switch it to a wordpress.

  27. Nice tutorial, Michele! I double-checked mine but nothing had changed, maybe because I moderate all the comments? Either way, nice to see a blog-type tutorial here! We love your crafts but it's fun to get a peek behind the scenes every once in a while, too.

  28. Thanks for the heads-up on this and for your tutorial Michelle. It took me a while to get it to change to the old interface and I actually had to close down the blogger tab and re-open it and voila it came up with the old dashboard. Anyway mine hadn't changed for some reason so that's okay. I had been getting really annoyed at this 2 word verification thing though and why didn't they let us know about this change??
