Ah, that is too bad to see it so trashed. Yeah, I love the wooded area around where I live. So far everyone is doing a good job of keeping it up and respecting it. I hope you figure out what to do about yours. Hugs.
Actually I contacted the city's Public Works and volunteered to clean it up. I got the go ahead so once I've collected all the trash, they will come and take it away for me. Kind of excited about it!
It seems like you have realised it may be you....all the best!
Thanks Leanne, I AM doing it. And it makes me happy to have taken it on!
I get really cross when folks trash communal areas like that, even just throwing cigarette ends on the pavements to me, is irresponsible. Birdsong and an area for wildlife and flora can be so invigorating for us all afterall.I wonder of you could galvanise some local support to help clean the place up?Could the police visit in darker hours, is there an anti fly tipping group that might clear away debris? Could you put posters asking for volunteers on a particular day, in local shops maybe?I think sadly, a communal spirit which involves 'voluntary' help doesn't often get going! Unless of course 'someone else' takes the lead and organises volunteers, folks can be so indifferent. If you feel up to the challenge, I wish you every success! Id come and help if I could!
It's a small area, so I'm tackling it on my own for now. If it were a larger area I might ask for help. But I'm happy to do it. The amount of trash is kind of amazing though! The city has agreed to take the collected trash away so that has really spurred me on.
I love to walk in nature It makes me think, connect to myself, Breathe There are amazing pieces of nature destroyed by humans Need to educate the next generation preserve nature
Which is exactly why I'm cleaning it up... So people can see what a lovely place it can be, and so they have it to escape to.
As a former inner city teacher, that screams 'community service' to me. I'll bet the principal or dean of students at a nearby school can find some students who should or would like to give back to the neighborhood. Everyone will benefit and feel good!
There is a high school right near by so telling them about the clean-up might be a good idea if only to make them aware that someone cares...
My sister lives on the edge of a wood and she takes it upon her self to go pick the rubbish up once a week. You look to have a lot of rubbish there to start of with, there all so could be needles in there, have you tried ringing the council, in my area they will come and clean up, might take some time but it would be worth it in the end.Amanda xx
I looked into that actually and found out how to properly dispose of needles (in the event that I find any - none yet), and broken glass (which there is a lot of). I'm wearing protective equipment and being careful. I would hate to have a child or a family pet go in there and hurt themselves which is part of the reason I'm doing it. I think it's totally worth it. Underneath the garbage is a little gem of a place.
I want to know what you think... :)
