A Christmas Crochet Just-In-Time Finish

It's okay if I post it. The sweet recipients don't read this blog. They have no idea I'm talking about them in public behind their backs. They're clueless. And well they should be.

I made this movie-watching-cuddling-up-with-a-good-book-double-crochet-stripey couch-blanket for them. My hope was to make use of yarns I already had in the substantial yarn collection I inherited a few years ago. No purchases allowed. AT ALL.

Happily, I succeeded in my mission. But for that reason, the colour play is a little unconventional. And despite the pre-planning, I also had some serious doubt about whether or not the blanket would come together. At one point, I had to do some major restructuring which involved cutting out, with scissors yes, a series of heinous stripes from the middle. Thankfully, the blanket survived. And so did I.

But I'll explain the surgery in detail a little later. I'm still traumatized by it, I think.

The good news is, it's in one piece. And it is complete. Now I have a handmade gift for my loved ones. I'm happy about that. I hope they will be too.

P.S. Here's our family's absolute favourite couch-blanket (also crochet) which I made a while back.

  4. The throw you made a few years ago is wonderful, but I like this one better. I'm glad it made it through the surgery. I think you must be a crocheting genius to do that. The colors are so serene and subdued and that's probably why I'm more fond of this one.

I'm sure your loved ones will be impressed and love snuggling in it with found thoughts of you.

  9. It's gorgeous. I rarely buy fabrics (my yarn equivalent) for specific projects, and just raid my cupboard instead. I prefer it that way and think your stash-using blanket is proof that this works (even if it does sometimes involve a bit of trauma - I do know the feeling!)

  11. It's beautiful. You've inspired me. I found my crochet hooks and will be purchasing yarn at the after Christmas sales. Unlike you, I just stockpile counted cross-stitch stuff. That reminds me, I need to email my best friend and see if she'll go shopping with me to keep me OUT of the cross-stitch aisle.

Anyway, I loved the comments, "The sweet recipients don't read this blog. They have no idea I'm talking about them in public behind their backs. They're clueless." I made a couple of items for friends this year and blogged about them knowing they don't read my blog. And, for those who do and are getting something they saw on the pages, well, "I hope the recipient likes this as much as I do" works really well. Although I really don't like using gender neutral language, sometimes you need to do so to be devious.
