The Boy's "Before" Bedroom

We've officially made a start on The Boy's bedroom overhaul!

This is a project we've been discussing for about a year now... It's almost ludicrous, I know. But it is my belief that sometimes these things have to percolate in the mind for a time before they can be poured out into the real world... Anyway, the work has finally, finally begun. I know, I have an actual goal. Amazing stuff.

Before sharing any progress, I thought I'd show some "before" pictures and our BIG list of plans. There's a lot to be done in this little room but our hope is to keep the changes simple, work with many of the existing elements, donate a lot of stuff, keep the waste to a minimum, and be done swiftly!

Here's what the room looked like before we started, and our wish list for its improvement:

Can't wait to see the backside of that red and orange colour scheme. Yikes-ey... I'll be back with an update soon. Wish us luck!

  1. Good luck! We're building a new room in the roof for my little one and the baby on the way and it's so exciting as it's the first time I've ever really planned a room from scratch rather than things just evolving organically. I'm having fun using the internet for inspiration.

I'm looking forward to seeing the results of your boy's room overhaul!

  5. I agree about percolating - both Tim and I tend to percolate stuff for a very long time. What is funny about percolating is that if you percolate long enough the decision and action is much more decisive and quick than it normally is.

I can see where the room needs updating for Boy but it is cute as it is too.

  6. Wow, great plans! We stalled after buying our boy is his 'big boy' furniture. He's been waiting for a paint update for 2 years now. Poor kid.

  7. I believe the result will be great!:) Your son should like the new look of his room, that's the point! My son made "the big change" together with his father, while I was absent for 10 days and they surprised me a lot. They really did! New colours of the walls, the furniture - rearranged, window shades instead of the curtains, etc. This is such a thrilling moment of a family's life - good luck and a wonderful mood, while changing things!!;-)

  8. Well that should keep you occupied for a while! lol
Great idea to utilise trhe cupboard in that way, is it deep enough to have shelving on its interior walls too?
What a lovely way to start his new year off with an updated space for him too.

  9. On second inspection I spied the egg carton storage in the last picture. Very you, Michele! Big N also has one going now for his 'treasure' collection. : )
